In the aftermath of a traumatic event the counsellor can assist the client in the ventilation of his/her intense emotions by providing structure in a situation that is  rather chaotic through practical “hands-on” support.

By sharing one’s trauma with somebody can be seen as to “vent” through your issues with regard to the trauma you experience. Venting is thus a process in which the counsellor  assist the client who is experiencing trauma by venting their intense emotions.

It is important to emphasize that one cannot resolve pain caused by trauma without acknowledging it, talking about the trauma as well as moving through the emotional pain that it causes, this means that the person vent through the issues with regard to the trauma.
